As a fitness enthusiast and local business owner with a private massage, bodywork, and personal training practice in the great city of Oakland – my circle of friends, clients, and colleagues have come to know my passion for health, fitness, recovery, and running.  My race training and preparation for 11 marathons (4 Consecutive Oakland Marathons 2014-2017), 3 Ultra-marathons, 15 Half-marathons, and countless 5k’s and 10k’s over these years has afforded me many opportunities to run Oakland.  Excited to make my return as an Oakland Marathon Ambassador!

ABOUT THIS AMBASSADOR
AMBASSADOR – GARY
My profession is in the technical part of the utility energy and real estate business, that I sit in front of my computer day in and day out. Then running kicked in.
Started to run the first time when I was 54, but the races and medals kept me running ever since. After numerous full and half marathons, I played with the shorter distance races such as the 5 and 10k’s which I found to be more challenging due to the speed. Just like anything I do, I set goals with moving targets and meanings. I ran 26 miles and 30 miles by myself whenever opportunity arise.
I am an urban runner who like to run where people and runners are frequented, and I map the public toilets and water supplies for my routes longer than 15 miles. Lately, coffee shops are in the list.
I explore new routes constantly, but I have my favorites. The Embarcadero waterfront to Marin County over the Golden Gate Bridge, the waterfront paths between Richmond Marina and the Yerba Bruena Island, and the loops and routes from Albany to Oakland and Lake Merritt.
I have a BART ticket with me on any impulsive long runs, just in case I lose my mind.

ABOUT THIS AMBASSADOR

AMBASSADOR – MICHELLE

I am so excited to be an Oakland Running Festival Ambassador! I fell in love with the inaugural Oakland Marathon because the logistics were great, the expo was convenient, the course was beautiful and the crowd supporting was amazing.  I ran the first 5 Oakland Marathons and each one was better than the one before J.
I started running 20 years ago to lose weight and I fell in love with the sport.  I started with a 5k and gradually moved up the distances topping out at a 12-hour ultra marathon endurance race.  I have run over 40 marathons and 40 half marathons and every one is a new adventure.  I am a member of the Fleet Feet Menlo Park Run Squad, the We Run the Bay Group and the Wolfpack Running Club out of the South Bay.
In August, 2016, I tore my right hamstring muscle off the bone playing softball and my running was put on hold.  I am fortunate now to run but at a pace much slower and harder than I was able to do before.  I am so blessed to be able to continue to do what I love and the Oakland Marathon will be my first marathon since my injury: I will have the biggest smile out on that course!
I tell people that I have run a lot of marathons and my top 3 marathons are 1.) Boston, 2.) Big Sur and 3.) Oakland.  This Town knows how to throw a running festival!

ABOUT THIS AMBASSADOR

AMBASSADOR – PETER

I’m heavily involved with all the running communities in the bay area.  I started my running in Nov 2011 for a fundraising 5k event in Lake Elizabeth, Fremont, CA. Since then I have completed 80+ half marathons, 20+ full marathons included Chicago marathon, San Francisco marathon, Santa Rosa marathon, Mountain to the Beach marathon, Utah Marathon, Canyon City marathon, and many others. I also enjoyed trail running and I love to share my ultra running experiences to motivate runners for a healthy fitness. I finished Tahoe 200 endurance run in 2016, (5) 100 milers in 2015, (3) 100k, (3) 50 miles, and (60+) trail half marathons.

I also served as the pacing team captain for Tri-Valley running group in Dublin and we provided free pacing for many bay area events (Double road race, SFM, Brazen racing, Livermore Half, Tiburon Half). The most excitement is able to assist runners to reach their personal goal (running, fitness, and nutrition).
