Honorary Oakland Marathon Starter

Warriors Coach Ron Adams Named Honorary Oakland Marathon Starter

Oakland, Cal. (March 12, 2018)— Accustom to life on the court, Ron Adams joins runners as they embark on their 26.2-mile trek around the beautiful city of Oakland. Adams will serve as the honorary starter of the 9th annual Oakland Marathon at 7 am on March 25.

After joining the Golden State Warriors at the beginning of the 2014-2015 season, he played an integral role with the franchise as the lead assistant coach for the reigning NBA Champions. He is currently serving his 24th season as an NBA assistant.

Adams has been an assistant coach on four NBA teams, specializing on defense. Recognized for his ability to completely reshape teams’ defensive prowess, Adams added another dynamic to the already dangerous Golden State Warriors.

Corrigan Sports Enterprises (CSE) operates the race that will draw 10,000 runners to The Town. Lee Corrigan, president of CSE, said, “The Warriors and Oakland Marathon draw global attention to this great city. We applaud the Warriors’ dedication to their community and Coach Adams will have us all ready to run a full-court press toward personal records on race day!”

The Oakland Marathon is part of the annual Oakland Running Festival, which also consists of the Half-Marathon, Bank of the West 5K, Team Relay, and Kids Fun Run. Last year’s festival generated an estimated $12 million in economic impact and has raised more than $2 million for local charities since its inception.
