Rosaura Briceno-Tennant Volunteer of the Year Award
In early 2024, the running community lost a beloved friend, Rosaura Briceno-Tennant, to a battle with cancer. Rosaura not only participated in run crews and running events, but was always an incredible and the friendliest of volunteers at Run Local events.
In honor of her dedication to the running community, the Oakland Marathon launched the Rosaura Briceno-Tennant Volunteer of the Year Award in 2024. The award seeks to recognize a volunteer that has stood out for their own efforts
2024 β Guillermo Barron
In 2024 alone, Guillermo took time from work to volunteer two different shifts, staying late to load trucks with heavy shirt boxes to support staff & volunteers. Guillermo went above and beyond what was expected and we are very grateful for him in doing so. He also found time to run the Oakland 10K on Sunday!
Β
Guillermo (71) moved from Mexico in 1978 and started running in his 20s.Β He has been a member of Lake Merritt Joggers & Striders for 20+ years volunteering and running with them. His favorite distance to run is the Marathon, having run over 100 marathons (!) including the inaugural Oakland Marathon in 2010.
