FUN RUN INFO
The Oakland Running Festival has been dedicated to bringing a healthy, fun event to Oakland for 11 years. This year is no different. In partnership with Stephen and Ayesha Curry’s foundation, Eat. Learn. Play., the Oakland Running Festival will offer the Kid’s Fun Run. The Kid’s Fun Run is dedicated to getting our youngest generation to participate in this annual healthy, community tradition. The event will help promote the positive benefits that running has on all children, and will provide a great opportunity for families to support one another in their health goals.
The Kids Fun Run is open to children under the age of 12 years. The participants will run a special course around Snow Park, they can choose a half mile or quarter mile, all culminating at the official Oakland Running Festival finish line arch!
STARTING THE FUN RUN
All races will start promptly at the time indicated. All participants should meet in the Kids Fun Zone, located in Snow Park by 12:00 pm. Runners will be escorted to their appropriate start line by race staff. Participants should stage with their age group in the Kids Zone located in the infield near the inflatable games. Groups will begin to walk to their respective start-line 15 minutes prior to the start of the race.
Parents are encouraged to run the course with their child, but there will also be Oakland Running Festival volunteers running alongside the children throughout the race to cheer them on and support them all the way through the finish line! Parents of children 5 years old & under are encouraged to run the course with their child.
FUN RUN FINISH AREA
Upon completion of the race, participants will enjoy fun activities, healthy snacks and beverages at the Kids Fun Zone at the finish. Parents are asked to join their child here and escort them directly to the Kids Fun Zone to receive their finisher’s medal. All Kids Fun Run participants will receive an Oakland Running Festival t-shirt and other prizes. Thanks to Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation, participation will be free for children that are part of Oakland Parks, Recreation & Youth Development or OUSD’s Oakland Athletic League programs.

Kid's Run Volunteers
The goal of “Black Girls Run!” is to encourage and motivate black women to practice a healthy lifestyle. We want to serve as a fitness resource for runners and gym rats alike, as well as provide tips and commentary on staying active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. But we also want to start a movement to encourage ALL women to get off the couch and get active.
Black Girls RUN! wants to encourage African-American women to make fitness and healthy living a priority. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 80% of African-American women are overweight. BGR! wants to create a movement to lower that percentage and subsequently, lower the number of women with chronic diseases associated with an unhealthy diet and sedentary lifestyle.
